BREAKING NEWS: President Obama announces: ‘I have decided that the United States should take action against Syrian military targets’ and he will ‘seek authorization for the use of force’ from Congress
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to world war III.
Russia and china have both promised to retaliate with force upon any U.S. intervention in syria.
He’s walking the world into a massacre.
I couldn’t believe it when I saw this headline.
Not only Russia and China will retaliate but I would put money on Iran and basically every other country the US has managed to piss off in the last 50 years will probably step up to the plate.
We have our new Danzig.
SIGNAL BOOST. we need to like, NOT do this.
Email the White House, reblog things like this, ANYTHING you can do to show that we do NOT approve.
We can TRY to make a difference.
I’ve been saying this so much!! America need to stop their constant interference into another country’s affairs. They are not the world police! They need to stay away from the middle East and allow other diplomats to sort it out DIPLOMATICALLY NOT MILITARILY
Keeping in mind that I know all of this from listening and reading to bits of the news (which is apparently more than other people have done?). I have bolded things for your convenience.
The problem is, that Syria has been accused of using chemical warfare against its own people. The use of chemical weapons is considered a crime against humanity, and a war crime. If a country is committing war crimes, then the UN is obligated to step in. Hence why the UN has asked Chemical Weapons specialists to step in and investigate the accusations. Please note that the US is part of the UN.
As for Obama’s part— the reason Obama wants to send in forces is because he believes the US has a moral responsibility to stop a country for using chemical warfare, or any other crime against humanity. To quote from the Washington Post:
“This attack is an assault on human dignity,” Obama said in an impassioned afternoon address in the White House Rose Garden. “It also presents a serious danger to our national security. . . . It could lead to escalating use of chemical weapons, or their proliferation to terrorist groups who would do our people harm.”
and also this right here, from the same article:
“Here’s my question for every member of Congress and every member of the global community: What message will we send if a dictator can gas hundreds of children to death in plain sight and pay no price?” Obama asked.
The president said it would be seen a green light for adversaries seeking to build nuclear weapons and terrorist groups that got access to biological weapons. “Make no mistake — this has implications beyond chemical warfare,” he said.
It’s not that Obama is trying to turn the US into the world’s police force. No one wants war, and definitely no one wants a new world war. In a case like this, saying that the US needs to stop “interfering in other country’s affairs” is saying that the US— and the world— should turn a blind eye to the horrible, disgusting crimes that are happening in Syria and other places of the world. If I had to guess, I’d say the same people arguing about this also gave our country hate for not stepping in and stopping some of the other horrible crimes against humanity that have happened over the past few years. You can’t pick and choose who to care about.
Obama is trying to step in before a situation can get worse— and remember, the last two world wars were started by ignoring crimes like this and general appeasement. I’m not saying that violence is the right answer, because honestly I think this entire thing is a horrible situation that has absolutely no not-horrible options for dealing with it, and I’m not the most educated person on the subject. But please look at his side of the story or at least google what’s going on instead of just relying on Tumblr.
Also, it is important to note that Obama is asking Congress to vote on the matter. He is not saying that he’s making anyone do anything. He is literally leaving it up to the people to decide on what to do. Emailing the white house will do absolutely nothing— if you want to try and make a difference, write to and protest to your congressman/woman. So calm your tits on that.
